Phil Spector jury selection begins
Music producer Phil Spector was in court yesterday (March 19th) for the first day of jury selection in his murder trial. Spector is accused of killing B-movie actress Lana Clarkson at his home in February 2003. A smiling Spector arrived to the court escorted by lawyers and bodyguards and sporting a blonde shag hairdo that replaced his frizzy afro. The "Wall of Sound" architect left the proceedings at the noon break.
Forty-three out of 150 potential jurors were dismissed Monday (March 19th) and another 150 will be screened today (March 20th). Opening statements in the trial are scheduled to begin April 30th in televised proceedings expected to generate as much media attention as O.J. Simpson's 1995 murder trial.
Clarkson met Spector the night before her death and was found dead from a gunshot wound to the mouth the next morning in his home's foyer. Prosecutors say Spector pulled the trigger and his defense claims it was Clarkson who put the gun in her mouth and shot herself.
