The Police working hard for reunion tour

The members of the Police are concentrating on getting themselves ready for their 30th anniversary reunion tour, which starts May 28th in Vancouver. The band has been rehearsing since before they appeared on the Grammy Awards last month, and they're working hard on the arrangements for their songs. Singer-bassist Sting told London's Sunday Times, "There is a lot of work to be done. I have developed a lot of these songs as a solo performer, so they are very different. There are rhythmical and structural differences I've woven in and haven't shared with the others, and they were like, 'Whatâ??s this?' They said they want to do it the way it was in 1982. I said I want it to represent who we are now as musicians. We had a negotiation about the way to keep things fresh and also respect what we did before. And that's ongoing and I think it's exciting."

Sting also said he's glad to be in a group again with drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers. Sting said, "Why have I done this? I've done this because it's some kind of healing... There was a need to heal. I escaped this band. I meant it when I said it would be a sign of insanity if I ever came back. I said that every day before I made the decision to get back together. But one day I just woke up and thought, 'Let's do that.'... Every time I had a successful album, the Police went further away. Then one day I woke and said now is the time to deal with this thing."

The article also included a list of songs the Police have been working on:
"When The World Is Running Down"
"Message In A Bottle"
"Driven To Tears"
"Walking On The Moon"
"Synchronicity II"
"Don't Stand So Close To Me"
"Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"
"Walking In Your Footsteps"
"Tea In The Sahara"
"Deathwish"
"Demolition Man"
"De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da"
"Murder By Numbers"
"Spirits In The Material World"
"Wrapped Around Your Finger"
"Invisible Sun"
"The Bed's Too Big Without You"

"Bring On The Night"
"King Of Pain"
"Shadows In The Rain"
"Roxanne"

In related news, the Police have announced the first set of their European dates. They start August 29th in Stockholm, and there are shows booked through October 19th in Cardiff, Wales. So far, the only fall date for North America is November 8th in Toronto.
