Queens of the Stone Age album previewed
The new Queens of the Stone Age album, titled Era Vulgaris, was previewed for members of the press last week at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas. Billboard.com described the nine songs that were played as containing both "fast, powerful riffs" as well as "more psychedelic, boogie-ish rhythms." Songs that were previewed included "Sick, Sick, Sick," "Battery Acid," "Suture Up Your Future," and "River In The Road."
Queens frontman Josh Homme told us that he doesn't worry about outside expectations when making a new album: "I never made any records under pressure from outsiders yet. It would be a bad idea for me to do that. Making records is a very, it's a selfish thing. Music is a selfish thing for the listener, for the maker, everybody. And so I think what's really important is that I sort of not change the reason I started making 'em."
Era Vulgaris will reportedly feature guest appearances from Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, Strokes singer Julian Casablancas, former Queens vocalist Mark Lanegan, and ZZ Top guitarist Billy F. Gibbons.
The CD is due out in mid-June and follows up 2005's Lullabies To Paralyze.
The band has scheduled some summer European festival appearances but there's no word yet on U.S. tour plans.
