REM bassist a fan of fellow Rock Hall honorees
When R.E.M. is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next Monday (March 12th), bassist Mike Mills will be in his own music-lover's heaven. We all know how R.E.M. reveres fellow inductee Patti Smith, but Mills told us that he's into all of the people being honored this year: "I'm fans of all of 'em. You know, hip-hop maybe may not be my favorite music, but I certainly enjoyed a lot of what Grandmaster Flash was doing -- you know, socially conscious stuff as well as fun stuff that they did. And, you know, I mean, Van Halen, what can you say? (laughs) I mean, they just made some incredible records, and I've been a fan of Edward (Van Halen)'s for a long time. And, and the Ronettes, you know, I mean, that's just such happy music."
R.E.M. will be inducted by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder at the ceremony, which is being held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
This year's Rock Hall induction ceremony will air live on VH1 Classic on Monday beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET.
