Rolling Stones announce Bigger Bang DVD
The concert movie that was shot last year by director Martin Scorsese isn't the only visual document of the A Bigger Bang tour that the Rolling Stones are working on. The band is working on a multi-disc DVD box set that will include footage from some of the bigger shows they played in 2006. Stones frontman Mick Jagger ran down the project this way: "We've got a DVD coming out of the A Bigger Bang tour, which is coming out, like, May-June, I think, in Europe, I'm not sure of the exact date. And I think that's gonna be -- it's like (a) four-disc DVD of, like, all the different shows. We've got Austin, Texas, which was a big show, and we've got the show in Rio De Janeiro, which was, like, an even bigger show." The Austin show took place in Zilker Park on October 22nd in front of about 42,000 people, while the gig on the beach in Rio on February 18th was a bit bigger -- the audience reached a million and a quarter fans, according to some estimates.
There's no word yet on when the DVD set will be released in the U.S.
This will be the second time the Stones have put together a four-DVD package from a tour. In 2003, they released the Four Flicks box set of material from the 2002-2003 Licks tour.
The Rolling Stones kick off a European tour on June 5th in Belgium.
