The Rolling Stones to play Isle Of Wight

The Rolling Stones will headline the Isle Of Wight festival this year, as part of a series of make-up shows held over from last year's tour. Billboard reported that the Stones will perform on the third night of the festival on June 10th. The performance marks the band's first UK festival appearance since playing 1976's Knebworth Festival.

On Thursday, (March 22nd) Mick Jagger is expected to conduct a live webcast on the band's official website (rollingstones.com) to announce further European dates. Although the itinerary for Stones' European summer tour is still being ironed out, they are rumored to be playing over 20 dates before wrapping the tour up in late August at London's Wembley Stadium.

The Stones join a long list of legendary acts to play the Isle Of Wight Festival over the years, including Bob Dylan and the Band, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Joni Mitchell, Sly & the Family Stone, the Everly Brothers, Donovan, Chicago, David Bowie, R.E.M., and many more.

In other Stones-related news:

Mick Jagger has signed on to produce director Martin Scorsese's latest movie called The Long Play, which is being described as a "music business-centric film." Scorsese's still-untitled Stones documentary, which was shot in part last year in New York City, is scheduled for a fall release.

Ron Wood has successfully been battling his demons with substance abuse over the past few years, and told Britain's Mojo magazine that Jagger has always been supportive of him. Wood revealed that, "As a friend, he says 'Try. Any help you need and I'm there for you.' For my part, I feel a responsibility to play better. I know I can."
