Sammy Hagar says Van Halen brothers won't be at Rock Hall induction
Sammy Hagar has confirmed that the Van Halen brothers won't be on hand when the group is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday. There's been a lot of speculation about whether Eddie and Alex Van Halen would join Michael Anthony, David Lee Roth, and Hagar at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, but Hagar told the San Francisco Chronicle, "I don't think Ed and Al are going. The word I got from our management is that now they said they're not going. Roth'll be there... he's there right now. He's already got a room."There was talk earlier this year about a Van Halen reunion tour with Roth, but those plans have since been scuttled. Hagar told the Chronicle that it's a good idea, but he's not surprised it didn't happen. He said, "When they were gonna do their tour with Roth that just blew out -- I could have told you that. I bet money that would never happen. I would love to see it. They owe it to the fans. They should do it. I believe it's the right thing for Van Halen to do, is to do a David Lee Roth reunion." Hagar added, "Look how long it's been. It's never worked. This is the fourth abortion. There's a lot of fans out there and they've been waiting a long time for this. And it's gotta happen someday. We did it -- they should do it."
Hagar also indicated that the cancellation of the Van Halen tour and the decision by Eddie and Alex Van Halen to bypass the Rock Hall ceremony are linked.
Since Van Halen won't be performing on Monday, Velvet Revolver will be on hand to pay tribute to the band, and singer Scott Weiland and lead guitarist Slash will do the induction speeches for Van Halen.
Also being honored on Monday are Patti Smith, the Ronettes, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, and R.E.M.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air live on VH1 Classic.
