Simon Cowell: "I sell more records than Bruce Springsteen"
American Idol judge Simon Cowell is in the hot seat this Sunday (March 18th) on 60 Minutes. The British record exec talks to Anderson Cooper about everything from Idol to the death penalty to his worth, and he even gets critiqued for a change.
Cowell is characteristically blunt throughout the interview, and even says he's bigger than "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen because he's sold more records for Sony BMG than The Boss has, even though they're being paid roughly the same amount of money.
In this clip from 60 Minutes, Cowell explains why his $100 million paycheck is more valuable than Springsteen's: (Anderson Cooper) "Are you as important to Sony BMG as Bruce Springsten?" (Simon Cowell) "In terms of selling records, yes." (Cooper) "Who sells more records?" (Cowell) "I sell more records than Bruce Springsteen, sure. I mean, in the last five years, I've probably sold over a hundred million records. If he got 100 I should have got 500. But, I mean, you know, a hundred million dollar deal, that's a great deal. But like I said..." (Cooper) "For him or for you?" (Cowel) "For him. (Laughs) For him it's a good deal."
60 Minutes airs Sundays (March 18th) at 7 on CBS.
