The Sopranos not welcome at New Jersey
The northern New Jersey town of Bloomfield has kyboshed plans for The Sopranos to shoot its final episode there. Bloomfield's mayor and city council turned down the show's film permit request because they believe the program negatively portrays Italian-Americans. The film permit had actually been approved last week but was reviewed again this week after complaints from residents and Italian-American organizations. Another city council meeting on the subject will be held this coming Monday (March 12th).
The Sopranos planned to use the town's Holsten's Brookdale Confectionery as the backdrop for its last scenes. Holsten's co-owner Chris Carley disagrees with his city's stance and welcomes The Sopranos to his property. He said, "If it's good for the area and businesses, your personal opinions shouldn't be mixed in."
The Sopranos' final season starts in April on HBO.
