Sum 41 completes fourth album
Sum 41 has completed work on its fifth album and plans to release the record in late June or early July, according to Jam! Music. The Canadian trio is mastering the yet-to-be-titled disc this week. Singer and guitarist Deryck Whibley produced the CD, the first time in the band's career that he has taken on that responsibility by himself. The group will begin rehearsals later this month in Los Angeles and will also hold auditions for a touring guitarist to replace Dave "Brownsound" Baksh, who left the group last year to pursue a solo project.
The new CD follows up the band's 2004 release, Chuck, but bassist Jason "Cone" McCaslin said that it won't be as heavy and dark as that album. He explained, "(Chuck) was a hard album for us. If we were to keep going (in that direction), we'd have to make it heavier and harder."
McCaslin added that the new effort is "a little edgier and harder than our first few albums, but melodically it's kind of the same."
No tour plans have been revealed yet, but it's rumored that Sum 41 might appear on this summer's Warped Tour.
