Velvet Revolver singer reveals own-label signing
Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland has officially announced the release date for the first signing to his record label, Softdrive Records. The band, called the Actual, will issue its debut album, titled In Stitches, on May 29th. Weiland co-produced the record with Douglas Grean, who's his partner in Softdrive as well as Lavish Studios in Los Angeles. Weiland told us why he wanted to start his own record label: "You know, I know how I felt when I got a record deal. But these days, to get the golden egg at a major label is just realistically impossible. If you really take a look at a lot of the new bands that have done well, have come from the indie labels. So, you know, we're an independent label, and we have a lot to offer." The Actual's frontman, Max Bernstein, is the son of famed Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein and writer/filmmaker Nora Ephron. Audio samples of the band can be heard at MySpace.com/theactual.
Weiland also plans to release his second solo album through Softdrive sometime later this year or in early 2008.
Velvet Revolver's sophomore effort, Libertad, is tentatively scheduled for release on June 5th. The group is planning a tour of small U.S. venues around the time of the CD's arrival. A show in Seattle on May 7th and a festival in Columbus, Ohio on May 19th are the only confirmed dates so far.
The band performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 12th in New York City, in place of absent inductees Van Halen.
