White Stripes preparing "Icky" new album
The White Stripes have finished recording and mixing their new album, according to a post at the band's official web site. The duo's sixth studio effort, called Icky Thump, was laid down in "almost three weeks" at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, where singer and guitarist Jack White now lives. Songs slated to appear on the disc include "Catch Hell Blues," "Little Cream Soda," "Rag and Bone," "You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do as You're Told)," and the title track, which will be the first in the band's history. A short video of Jack White recording vocals in the studio for another tune, "I'm Slowly Turning Into You," as drummer Meg White prances behind him dressed as a skeleton, has also been posted at the band's site.
The post also noted that yet another song, "Monkeys Have It Easy," has been "discarded" while "Clicky Bump" was "retitled into something pleasant."
The message also said that the Whites "were said to have been looking like they were 'into it almost'" while recording the album, and that Meg White later commented that the record was "finished," "musical in nature" and "good."
Icky Thump will follow the band's 2005 release, Get Behind Me Satan. It will be the band's first project through Warner Bros. Records, where they signed a new deal after their previous label, V2, shut down last year.
A release date has not been revealed, although according to the web site post, the duo "are doing our best (whatever that is) to release the album as soon as corporately possible."
The group also plans to tour this year, with a June performance at the Bonnaroo festival already confirmed.
