Wolfmother starting to work on new songs
Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale told Billboard yesterday (Thursday, March 1st) that the Australian trio is starting to come up with ideas for the follow-up to its 2006 self-titled debut. Stockdale explained, "We have a few songs that are getting in the pipeline to get worked on. We just recorded a song in Vancouver, so that's pretty exciting. It's called 'Love Attacker.' It's the first (new) song in the year-and-a-half since we recorded the album." Stockdale added that the band is already playing "Love Attacker" live and will include the track on its sophomore CD.
The singer and guitarist hopes to have the new record out in early 2008, and doesn't expect much of a departure from the group's first offering, saying it will be "just kind of a continuation of what we did on the first one with that sound and that approach and that style of rock'n'roll...I guess I just want to rediscover what I love about rock'n'roll and what I love about music."
Wolfmother is currently playing a handful of North American dates and stops tonight (Friday, March 2nd) in Indianapolis. The group will next head home to Australia and then Europe before coming back for one more U.S. run in late spring or early summer. A live DVD is also in the works.
Wolfmother became the first Australian act in 25 years to win a Grammy Award when it scored one last month for Best Hard Rock Performance with its single "Woman."
