The Beatles settle suit with record label
The Beatles have announced that they have settled their lawsuit with their record label EMI, which claimed that the label underpaid the band by $60 million between 1994 and 1999. London's The Telegraph reported that although no figures had been announced, the surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, and the estates of the late John Lennon and George Harrison all walked a way with multi-million dollar settlements.
As part of the suit, the Beatles' company Apple was seeking the full rights to the original master tapes of the Beatles' body of work, which is owned exclusively by EMI. The settlement of 16-month battle, which was finalized late last month, may finally lead the way for the Beatles' music to be available online.
Earlier this week it was announced that Apple managing director Neil Aspinall, who was the group's right-hand man for over 45 years, was stepping down and would be replaced by former record company executive Jeff Jones.
In other Beatles-related news:
Paul McCartney has just wrapped production for the video of "Dancing Tonight," the leadoff single for his upcoming album, Memory Almost Full. The video, which reportedly features a McCartney look-a-like, stars actresses Natalie Portman and The Office star Mackenzie Crook.
The Telegraph reported that, "(McCartney's) always been a huge fan of Natalie's, but he recently met her through his daughter, Stella (McCartney), who makes the 'vegetarian' shoes that Natalie likes to wear, and asked her if she'd like to work on the project. She and Mackenzie are quite an odd combination, but the end result looks fantastic: it involves Paul being visited by various ghoulish figures."
There has been no release date announced for the "Dancing Tonight" single. McCartney's Memory Almost Full will be released on June 5th.
