Gene Simmons hosts Guitar Hero II competition in New York City

Kiss singer-bassist Gene Simmons was in New York City on Wednesday, April 11th to host a video game competition. Simmons was joined at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square by five of the best Guitar Hero II players on the Xbox 360, where the gamers got to show off their skills in front of a live audience.

At the end of the event, 24-year-old J.W. McNay from Southlake, Texas, was named the winner, and he got to play his GH II controller in a jam with Simmons using his trademark Axe bass on the Kiss classic "Strutter." McNay also got a special edition Guitar Hero II guitar.

Simmons told us that he's amazed by how people react when they start using the GH II equipment: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "It was really interesting to watch the faces and the body motions, and the, kinda like the full body effect of having somebody play Guitar Hero II. Julie Chen at CBS Morning News -- I strapped the guitar on her, and she immediately, kinda like (went), 'Does anybody want my autograph?' It was very cool."
