Green Day frontman building homes in New Orleans
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong started working last week as a Habitat For Humanity volunteer in New Orleans, helping to build new houses for residents left homeless by Hurricane Katrina. Armstrong, accompanied by his family, posted his first update on Thursday (April 12th) at Greenday.net, writing, "Today we worked on the upper ninth ward...I had to do some upside down hammering technique but we managed to get the job done. We felt a great sense of accomplishment when we finished."
Armstrong and his family plan to post daily updates during their stay.
Green Day collaborated last year with U2 on a cover of "The Saints Are Coming" to raise funds for Music Rising, an organization co-founded by U2 guitarist The Edge to replace musical instruments lost due to Katrina.
Armstrong and the other members of GreenDay have been working on their next album.
