Hellyeah makes Top 10 Billboard debut
Hellyeah's self-titled debut album landed at Number Nine on the Billboard album chart on Wednesday (April 18th), selling 45,000 copies in its first week of release. The CD was the only other debut besides Bright Eyes' Cassadaga to enter the chart's Top 40 this week. Hellyeah is a collaborative effort consisting of Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, Mudvayne guitarist Greg Tribbett and singer Chad Gray, and Nothingface bassist Jerry Montano and guitarist Tom Maxwell.
The album was recorded in the Dallas studio co-owned by Paul and his brother, Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, who was shot and killed in December of 2004. Chad Gray told us that it was a strange experience to work there: "It was bizarre. It really bothered me to kind of be there because, you know, there's a lot of greatness that happened in that room but there's a lot of pain that goes along with that. And you see it in Vin, like, going in there the first couple of times, it was hard for him. One night I think we were just kind of standing outside and I'm like, you know, there was just parts of me that kind of wished I wasn't there, because the only way that I wouldn't have been there is if Dime was still around."
An exclusive version of Hellyeah's album, featuring a bonus acoustic demo version of the song "Alcohaulin' Ass," is available at Best Buy.
The band will head out this summer on the Family Values tour.
Gray and the rest of Mudvayne have been working on their fourth album in New Orleans.
