Modest Mouse bassist didn't expect no1 album
Modest Mouse bassist Eric Judy never expected the band's new album, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, to debut at Number One on the Billboard album chart two weeks ago. In fact, Judy told us that he was prepared for the disc to fall far short of topping the chart: "Yeah, nobody ever said that at all, you know. I just kind of assumed that, I was like, 'Hmm, kinda seems like maybe our record may not do as well as our last one, but you know what, that's fine too.' (laughs) So it was a surprise to see that it did really well, you know, record sales-wise in its first week. So it was a good surprise."
We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank sold 129,000 copies in its first week of release. Modest Mouse's previous effort, 2004's Good News For People Who Love Bad News, debuted at Number 19 with 68,000 copies sold, eventually moving more than one million copies.
The latest CD introduces former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr as the newest member of Modest Mouse.
Modest Mouse will begin a North American tour in support of the new album on Sunday (April 15th) in Seattle, Washington.
