My Chemical Romance guitarist leaves European tour
My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero has been forced to leave the band's current European tour and return home due to illness, according to Alternative Press. Singer Gerard Way announced that Iero was going home during the band's March 30th show at Wembley Arena in London. Although his current condition was not disclosed, Iero did have to leave once before during a January tour of Japan after developing an infection in his sinuses. Iero told us at the time that falling ill so far away from home was not a pleasant experience: "When you can't understand your doctors and, you know, you're in a strange land, it's a lot different. I was scared at one point because I was just having these high fevers and I would fall asleep because I was in so much pain, and I would wake up and just be sweating out the fever and bleeding from my nose. And I had no clue what was wrong with me, and nobody could really tell me what was wrong. I was kind of freaking out there for a while." My Chemical Romance guitar tech Matt Cortes is filling in for Iero on the remaining shows of the band's European tour, which ends on April 10th in Denmark.
Press representatives for My Chemical Romance did not respond to an inquiry on Iero's condition.
There's no word on whether Iero will be well enough for the band's next North American jaunt, which begins on April 14th in Houston with support from Muse.
My Chemical Romance is touring behind its latest album, The Black Parade, which features the latest single and video, "I Don't Love You."
