New Whitesnake album in October
Whitesnake leader David Coverdale has squashed a rumor about him rejoining Deep Purple. Coverdale and singer-bassist Glenn Hughes were in Purple's "Mark III" lineup, following the departure of singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover in 1973. Coverdale recently said he thought Hughes would fit some of the material being worked up for the new Whitesnake album, but he emphasized that no discussions had taken place. Of course, things built from there, so he felt the need to issue another statement:"I have not agreed in any way, shape, or form, to a reformation of (Deep Purple) Mark III... The only consideration, as I have said repeatedly in interviews, would be my willingness to be involved in a one-off charity show which would feature all surviving members of (Deep Purple)... If, indeed, there is a reformation... then I wish them every success, and perhaps Whitesnake could 'special guest' them somewhere!"
The vocalist added that he only has great memories of his time in Deep Purple, "But now, it's Whitesnake time, as far as I am concerned, and I am dedicated to fulfilling all my hopes, wishes, and dreams to ensuring quality work for all involved in the Snake."
As for the new Whitesnake album, it will probably be released in October, and Coverdale said, "Personally, I suggested we call the album The Best Of Whitesnake... Why?... 'cause it bloody well is.
