Pearl Jam not rushing into studio
Pearl Jam has no plans to record a new album anytime soon. Guitarist Mike McCready told Billboard that while band members have been doing some writing separately, there's no rush to get back to the studio. McCready said, "When we get it all together, we'll decide to do a record. That may be a year from now or half a year from now." Guitarist Stone Gossard recently said that Pearl Jam feels like its songwriting is as strong as ever after eight studio albums: "We're still writing songs in a way that, we don't take it -- we haven't started hiring people to write songs for us, or feeling like we can't do it ourselves. And we keep being rewarded for our work that we do with each other and the chances we take in terms of trusting each other and songwriting and collaboration and all that stuff."
The group released its latest disc, a self-titled effort, in May of 2006. A new cover of the Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" surfaced on the soundtrack of the recently released Adam Sandler film, Reign Over Me.
Pearl Jam is doing three weeks of European dates this summer, as well as a headlining appearance at Lollapalooza in early August.
McCready said that he doesn't expect any extended touring in the near future, telling Billboard, "The last year-and-a-half run was a long one for us. We're all getting a little bit older and having families. But these seemed like good opportunities, so we're going to take them. That being said, we're probably not going to go out for another year-and-a-half tour for the rest of our lives."
McCready's band Flight To Mars, a tribute act to British hard rock group UFO, will play in Seattle on Saturday (April 7th) at the annual fundraiser for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
