System Of A Down frontman and Korn guitarist launch new label projects

Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer will launch his record label, Emotional Syphon Recordings, on July 10th with the debut releases from Droid and Monster In The Machine. Droid is a full-on metal band, while Monster In The Machine is an alternative rock group in the mold of Depeche Mode or She Wants Revenge. Shaffer gave us his vision for the label and its roster: "I don't wanna just release metal albums. I wanna release a collection. I wanna have a roster of bands that's just kind of eclectic, sort of record label that reaches different genres of music."

Monster In The Machine's first album is called Butterfly Pinned.

Droid's self-titled CD includes a duet with Deftones frontman Chino Moreno on a song called "Vengeance Is Mine."

More information on both bands can be found at their MySpace pages, while Emotional Syphon also has its own MySpace blog as well.

Munky and the rest of Korn are currently working on their eighth studio album and will headline this summer's Family Values tour.

Meanwhile, System Of A Down vocalist Serj Tankian's label, Serjical Strike, will introduce Fair To Midland to the world on June 12th with the release of the group's debut disc, Fables From a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times Is True. Tankian told us how he discovered the group: "They're just an amazing band that I saw live, and I was really, really impressed with their performance and decided to work with them."

Fair To Midland will perform at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California on Sunday, April 29th, as well as New Jersey's Bamboozle festival on May 6th.

The Texas-based group will premiere a video for the single "Dance of the Manatee" on April 23rd at purevolume.com.

Serjical Strike has previously issued recordings by Serart, Kittens For Christian, Buckethead and Bad Acid Trip.

System Of A Down has been on hiatus since last year while its members pursue individual projects.
