White Stripes planning 10th anniversary event
The White Stripes are planning a10th anniversary show, possibly in Nova Scotia, on or around July 14th, which marks a decade since the duo played their first gig in Detroit back in 1997. According to a band representative, frontman Jack White's family originates from the region and both family and friends are expected to be on hand for the show. The event will fall in the middle of a planned U.S. tour that same month, which will tentatively hit the 16 states in which the duo has not yet performed.
Following the July trek, White will take the month of August off to be home for the arrival of his second child with wife Karen Elson. The Stripes will resume touring in the fall, returning to the bigger, more frequently visited markets.
The Stripes will be supporting their sixth album, Icky Thump, which is due out on June 19th through Warner Bros.
The album's title track will also be its first single. In England, the song will be released as the second of two limited edition vinyl seven-inch discs. "Icky Thump" will be on white vinyl, while the first one, "Rag and Bone," will come out on red vinyl. Both will feature special etchings and arrive in early June.
White also returned to the studio a week and a half ago to begin recording the second album from his other band, the Raconteurs. The follow-up to last year's debut, Broken Boy Soldiers, will probably surface sometime next year on a yet-to-be-determined label.
