Billy Joel digging deep into catalogue for tour

Billy Joel is doing everything he can to not play a best-of set on his current tour. In recent years when he's toured with Elton John, the format pretty much meant both men were doing their greatest hits, but Billy is stretching out now that it's just he and his band on stage.

He told us he's been able to work some deeper cuts into the shows: "We're doing 'The Entertainer,' which we haven't done since the '70s; 'Captain Jack'; 'The Ballad Of Billy The Kid'; 'She's Always A Woman' -- we took that one out of mothballs, we hadn't done that for 20 years, and it ended up being a real crowd favorite. These aren't every night, but from time to time, we play those. And I know people are walking out sometimes going, 'Well, why didn't he play 'Uptown Girl,' why didn't he play 'A Matter Of Trust,' why didn't he play 'She's Got A Way,' why didn't he play 'Tell Her About It,' but we don't always wanna do those."

Billy had a show on Friday (May 4th) at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The tour wraps up on Wednesday (May 9th), and plans for the rest of the year are being worked out.
