David Bowie getting online lifetime achievement award

David Bowie will soon be given a career honor, but it's not for his music -- he's being recognized for his pioneering work in cyberspace. He's been named a winner of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Webbys, the online group that honors "excellence on the Internet, including websites, interactive advertising, online film and video, and mobile web sites." Bowie is being saluted "for a career that has pushed the boundaries of art and technology," through his BowieNet Internet service provider, his digital media company UltraStar -- which has created material for the Rolling Stones, the Police, and Mariah Carey, among others -- and BowieArt, a website that brings artists with collectors together.

Also getting a Lifetime Achievement Award is eBay President and CEO Meg Whitman, on behalf of the eBay community, while YouTube co-founders Steve Chen and Chad Hurley have been named the Webby Person Of The Year.

Among the other prizes will be Best Actress, which goes to lonelygirl15 star Jessica Lee Rose, while the Best Actor is "Ninja" from the Ask A Ninja video series.

The Webbys will be handed out in New York City on June 5th. They're presented by The International Academy Of Digital Arts And Sciences, and The New York Times called it the "Oscars Of The Internet."
