Details about Scott Stapp's arrest
More details have emerged about former Creed singer Scott Stapp's Sunday morning (May 20th) arrest on domestic assault charges. According to a police report seen by TMZ.com, Stapp's wife, Jaclyn Nesheiwat Stapp, called 911 after Stapp stumbled home around 8 a.m. and got "very angry" when his wife asked him if he had been using drugs. Stapp, who went to rehab less than two years ago, reportedly told Jaclyn to leave him alone before hurling an Orangina bottle at her face and nearly hitting her.
Police found the broken bottle when they arrived, along with a cache of handguns locked in a safe, which a "very cooperative" Stapp handed over to the authorities. The singer also admitted that he had thrown the bottle, although he insisted that his wife "was nowhere in the area" where it hit.
Stapp was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault with intent to commit a felony, but had the charge reduced to a misdemeanor after spending one night in jail. The State Attorney now has the option of whether to pursue charges or drop the case.
The 33-year-old Stapp married former Miss New York Jaclyn Nesheiwat last February. They have a four-month-old daughter named Milan Hayat.
Stapp has had alcohol issues in the past, including an alcohol-related arrest at Los Angeles International Airport hours after his wedding to Nesheiwat and a drunken brawl in 2005 in a Baltimore hotel with members of 311.
A statement from Stapp's record label, Wind-Up Records, said, "This is a private matter between the members of the Stapp family and we would hope that their privacy is respected. Scott and Jaclyn are both well, and any further relevant information will be forthcoming at the appropriate time."
