The Doors to release 1970 concerts
The Doors have gone back to their last tour for their next archival release. Due out July 24th is The Doors Live In Boston '70, which is a three-disc set from the early and late shows on April 10th, 1970, at Boston Arena. The album comes from the multi-track tapes recorded by engineer Bruce Botnick on the tour, and material from several of those shows was used on the Absolutely Live album back in 1970. The Boston show is virtually unheard, with just two of the tracks having been used previously.
The liner notes for the package include memories from the surviving members of the band. Keyboardist Ray Manzarek said, "What a wild Doors night. We never knew what was going to happen when the shaman went over the edge. And this night is over the edge. He's beyond the pale, like Kurtz in Apocalypse Now." Drummer John Densmore added, "A Surgeon General's warning should be stickered on this recording, because Jimbo is ripped!... But he is so damn passionate and still hits all the cues with the band, so all I can say is 'In Vino Veritas' (in wine is the truth)."
The tracklisting for The Doors Live In Boston '70 includes:
DISC ONE -- First Show -- "Start," "All Right, All Right, All Right!", "Roadhouse Moan," "Roadhouse Blues," "Ship Of Fools," "Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)," "Back Door Man," "Five To One," "When The Music's Over," "Rock Me," "Mystery Train," "Away In India," "Crossroads," "Prelude To 'Wake Up!'," "Wake Up!", and "Light My Fire."
DISC TWO -- Second Show -- "Start," "Break On Through," "I Believe In Democracy," "When The Music's Over," "Roadhouse Blues," "The Spy," "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)," "Back Door Man," "Five To One," "Astrology Rap," "Build Me A Woman," "You Make Me Real," "Wait A Minute!", "Mystery Train," "Away In India," and "Crossroads."
