Fall Out Boy plans human rights trip to Uganda

Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz told MTV.com that the band plans to travel to Uganda in July and investigate firsthand the plight of refugees in the African nation's displacement camps. Wentz joined over 67,000 activists who slept in cardboard villages and ate crackers and water in 15 cities around the U.S. on Saturday (April 28th) to raise awareness of the Ugandan situation. Wentz said that the band now wants to continue drawing attention to the crisis, explaining, "We got the shots (necessary to travel to) Africa, and we're going to go to Uganda in July. I'm pretty excited, but also a little nervous. I feel like I won't really understand it until I go there, and I think that there's no other chance for me to do that."

Saturday's event, called Displace Me, was organized by a California non-profit group aimed at providing aid and awareness for the Ugandan crisis. Wentz told us a little more about the organization: "It's called Invisible Children. It's like this media organization that brings attention to children in Uganda who are impoverished."

Uganda has been locked in a bloody civil war for more than 20 years, the longest running conflict in Africa.

Fall Out Boy will also have Invisible Children out on the road with them for the Honda Civic Tour, which kicks off on May 11th in Denver.

Meanwhile, Wentz opened his new downtown New York City bar, Angels and Kings, on Monday night (April 30th). The guest list included rapper and label head Jay-Z, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, Sopranos star James Gandolfini and Wentz's current girlfriend, Ashlee Simpson, who was photographed being helped out of the club by Wentz.

Fall Out Boy performs on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday night (May 2nd).
