Velvet Revolver single forced by label
Velvet Revolver has posted the video for its new single, "She Builds Quick Machines," at Yahoo! Music and YouTube. The clip features the members of the band using explosives and handguns to battle against a crew of evildoers who have kidnapped a fallen angel. Singer Scott Weiland told MTV how the concept came about, explaining, "It originally started as just a spaghetti Western and then morphed into a combination of a spaghetti Western married to this freedom-fighter concept...we had no idea if it would look like crap or if it was going to look amazing. We knew it had to be cool, that it had to have a vibe and it couldn't look cheesy. And it came out looking badass.""She Builds Quick Machines" is the first single from Velvet Revolver's upcoming album, Libertad. But bassist Duff McKagan told us that while the band loved the song, it wasn't sure about the record label putting it out first: "RCA jumped on that as the first single and we've never let, none of us have ever let the record company choose singles, period. But they were so adamant about it. They were like, you know, 'We'll take the fall if it's not a big first single.' Great, 'cause that wasn't any of our choice for the first single."
The video was originally supposed to feature a scene in which lead guitarist Slash uses twin Les Pauls in a martial arts fight, but the axeman nixed the idea. He told MTV, "There's certain things you do with guitars, and there's a line where there's cool and uncool -- and that stepped over that line."
Libertad arrives in stores on July 3rd. Velvet Revolver will tour the U.S. with Alice In Chains later this summer.
