Grateful Dead coming to Sirius Radio
The Sirius satellite radio service has announced a new programming initiative that's dedicated to the music of the Grateful Dead family. Grateful Dead Radio, which will debut this summer, will have live recordings from the band's archives, bootlegs from tapers, and unreleased material, and the members of the Dead are expected to host shows of their own from time to time. Drummer Mickey Hart said, "We have fans who've driven hundreds of miles to see us. Now you can save on greenhouse gas emissions with Sirius without driving a mile." Singer-guitarist Bob Weir added, "Listen up, and listen good."
Sirius has experience with single-artist outlets. The service has an Elvis Presley channel, and stations in the past have been dedicated to Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, the Rolling Stones, David Gilmour and Pink Floyd, and the Who, among others.
