Nine Inch Nails frontman says plans for "Year Zero" sequel are in flux

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor told Australia's Herald Sun last week that the band's new concept album, Year Zero, actually started out as the first part of a proposed trilogy. But he added that plans for the second installment may be affected by the chance to turn the first album into a film. Reznor explained, "I wrote myself into a corner because I saw Year Zero as part one of something. But some interesting things have come up in terms of turning this into another format of entertainment, like a television show or a movie. I've had some meetings with A-list people I'm interested in possibly working with. But it interjects a narrative into it that, if this is all going to make sense, it affects the second musical part of it."

Reznor also said that he hasn't written any music for the next album yet, but plans to get that started when he returns home from the current Nine Inch Nails tour. He did say, however, "I don't expect it to sound like Year Zero did. It won't be another 15 songs from that same vibe."

Reznor used that same interview with the Herald Sun to lash out at his record label, Interscope records, accusing them of "ripping off the public" by jacking up the price of Year Zero.

Nine Inch Nails has not yet announced North American tour plans.
