Paul McCartney calls new album rocking
Paul McCartney has officially unveiled the tracklisting to his upcoming album, titled Memory Almost Full. The press release that he issued was written in the form of an open letter, and addressed the chronology of the writing and recording the album, along with his personal thoughts behind the new work, which will be released on June 5th.
Macca wrote that, "In places it's a very personal record and a lot of it is retrospective, drawing from memory, like memories from being a kid, from Liverpool and from summers gone. The album is evocative, emotional, (and) rocking, but I can't really sum it up in one sentence."
He added that, like much of his solo work, there is still a bit of Beatles-influence he can't shake: "There is a medley of five songs towards the end and that was purposefully retrospective. I thought this might be because I'm at this point in my life, but then I think about the times I was writing with John (Lennon) and a lot of that was also looking back. It's like me with 'Penny Lane' and 'Eleanor Rigby' -- I'm still up to the same tricks!"
The full track listing to McCartney's Memory Almost Full is: "Dance Tonight"; "Ever Present Past"; "See Your Sunshine"; "Only Mama Knows"; "You Tell Me"; "Mister Bellamy"; "Gratitude"; "Vintage Clothes"; "That Was Me"; "Feet In The Clouds"; "House Of Wax"; "End Of The End"; and "Nod Your Head."
Macca says that these days he doesn't think about his critics or his audience when writing, and only aims to please himself with his new material: "I went through a period of writing for listeners, but I think that's a bad mistake, 'cause you don't really know who's listening anyway, and you tend to sort of write for critics or you know, or what you think they're gonna want. I think that's a bad idea. I think you got to write for yourself, so that's the way I'm definitely writing now. So I make a point these days of satisfying myself first."
