Slash admits to visiting Axl Rose
Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash has admitted to visiting the home of his former Guns N' Roses bandmate, singer Axl Rose, in 2005, although he had previously denied doing so. Slash made the trip to reportedly offer a truce after the vocalist exchanged lawsuits with Slash and bassist Duff McKagan over unpaid Guns royalties. Rose claimed at the time that Slash showed up and made scathing remarks about his bandmates in Velvet Revolver. Slash told New Jersey's Home News Tribune that he did go to Rose's house but refuted the rest of the story, saying, "I actually did go to Axl's house at one point, but I never saw him. I never talked to him. I left a note with his person over there having to do with the lawsuit that we were in. I don't know how it got turned into what it got turned into." Axl's assistant, Beta Lebeis, claimed to be the person that Slash spoke with on the night he visited Axl's house and made the negative Velvet Revolver comments to.
Slash also conceded that the story caused tension in Velvet Revolver, explaining, "It was actually pretty detrimental at one point because it just got to be so overwhelming we couldn't seem to escape it. But it was just a matter of sticking together and getting through it, and we did. It will be interesting to see what they come up with next."
Velvet Revolver will release its new album, Libertad, on July 3rd. The band concluded a brief North American tour on Tuesday night (May 22nd) in New York and next heads to Europe. A summer U.S. jaunt with Alice In Chains is rumored, but nothing has been officially announced.
