Smashing Pumpkins fans crash ticket website

Demand for tickets to the Smashing Pumpkins' upcoming nine-show residency at the Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina was so huge that servers for Ticketweb.com weren't able to handle the load and crashed, according to Aversion.com. Tickets for the shows, which are scheduled from June 23rd to July 5th, went on sale Sunday (May 20th) and immediately fried the servers, bringing sales to a halt. The Orange Peel moved the event from Ticketweb to Ticketmaster as a result, with sales resuming on Monday evening (May 21st).

The group has also added three more shows to its second residency at San Francisco's Fillmore, stretching it from eight gigs to 11. That run begins on July 15th and ends on August 1st.

The Pumpkins will also play the Live Earth concert in New Jersey on July 7th, as well as the Virgin Festival in Baltimore on August 5th.

The new Pumpkins lineup will be revealed on Tuesday night when the reactivated group steps onstage for the first time in seven years in Paris, France. Widespread reports have suggested that bassist Ginger Reyes of the Halo Friendlies and former Lassie Foundation guitarist Jeff Schroeder have joined original members Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin.

The Pumpkins' new album, Zeitgeist, will be out on July 10th. A single called "Tarantula" was sent to radio stations last week.
