Tom Petty, Billy Joel and others to play big-money concerts
Tom Petty and Billy Joel are among the artists who will perform at big-money shows outside New York City this summer. They're part of a series of concerts that are being billed as "Social," and a pass for all five events will cost $15,000. The lineup also includes Dave Matthews, Prince, and James Taylor, and the shows will take place at the Ross School in East Hampton, New York, the area east of New York City that's known as a playground for the rich and famous.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Social is being pitched to executives on Wall Street, socialites from the Hamptons, and other wealthy people. In addition to the music, the gigs will also feature celebrity chefs, art displays, and seating that includes "daybeds, ottomans, and Moroccan pillows."
Social has been put together by a promotion company named Bulldog Entertainment, whose CEO Joe Meli said the average price of $3,000 per show is similar to what people are paying in the secondary ticket resale market.
