Bono discusses poverty with George Bush
Prior to the start of the G8 Summit in Germany on Wednesday (June 6th), President Bush met with musicians/activists Bono, Bob Geldof and Youssou N'Dour to discuss poverty. "Hanging out with good company, aren't I?" jested Bush, who'd early joked to an aide, "Where's Bono? Bono for president." Bono was there on the serious matter of urging summit leaders to meet commitments to increase aid to poorer countries. In related news, Bono has been working with his U2 bandmates on their new album, which has them reteaming with producer/collaborators Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. The follow-up to 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb is reportedly being written and recorded in Morocco, and Bono gushed about the session in an online posting, saying, "We have no plans for the music yet. We're just going to make it until we can't not put it out!"
U2 drummer Larry Mullen noted on the band's official website, "It's the first time we've worked with Brian and Dan in a purely songwriting capacity. So it's very different, quite experimental and kind of liberating because of that."
