Daughtry performing at Layne Staley Tribute Concert
Former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry and his self-named band will take the stage at this year's Layne Staley Tribute and Benefit Concert, scheduled for August 25th at the Fenix in Seattle. According to Blabbermouth, Daughtry has cited the late Alice In Chains vocalist as a major influence. Daughtry will be joined by local acts Soulbender and Riverbend at the event, which will also feature a "jam band" made up of special guests from the Seattle music community and a performance from Staley's mother, Nancy McCallum. The concert will also commemorate what would have been Staley's 40th birthday on August 22nd.
Tickets for the event go on sale this Friday (June 1st) at Ticketwest outlets, online or by calling 1-800-992-TIXX (8499).
Daughtry is currently on the road in support of his debut album, which has sold more than 2.6 million copies. He performs on Saturday (June 2nd) in Atlanta.
Layne Staley died in 2002 from a lethal mixture of heroin and cocaine. Alice In Chains reunited last year for a world tour with William DuVall on vocals and is reportedly working on a new studio album.
