Deep Purple announce tour, live DVD

Hard rock dinosaurs Deep Purple will release a live DVD next month, called They All Came Down To Montreux: Deep Purple Live At Montreux 2006. The 16-track, double DVD set was recorded last year at the annual Swiss festival and features singer Ian Gillan, guitarist Steve Morse, bassist Roger Glover, drummer Ian Paice, and keyboardist Don Airey.

The band has also announced tour dates to coincide with the release, kicking off at Atlanta's Chastain Park Amphitheatre on July 12th and continuing through until August 9th, according to NME.

In other Deep Purple news, their iconic single "Smoke on the Water" is now in contention to break the record for the world's largest ensemble performance of the same song. Initially, the event was to take place at London's Harrods department store, but was cancelled. It was revived by Kansas City radio station KYYS morning host Tanna Guthrie, and will now take place on Sunday (June 3rd). "We have people coming in from London, Sarajevo, from California, Minnesota, Nebraska and Michigan," she told the Kansas City Star. It will be followed by a jam session.
