Keith Richards says he'll perform even when in a wheelchair
Keith Richards says that he'll keep performing live even if he has to play in a wheelchair. Richards told itv.com that he's always up for playing live, explaining that, "You don't take it for granted... I quite see the attraction but it must be something to do with the music... I'll do it my wheelchair... it's easy for (drummer Charlie Watts), he's sitting down already!"He added that he's proud that the Stones' audience now spans three generations: "It's quite amazing to see people with their grandchildren, but at the same time very heartwarming. I've seen 12-year-old guitar freaks down the front who are now in bands and working... It's kind of an inspirational thing in a way to pass it on."
The Rolling Stones are currently on tour in Europe, and on Sunday, June 10th, played their first festival gig in over 31 years when they performed at the UK's Isle Of Wight Festival.
The Stones have been including fan favorites in their nightly setlist, including "Sweet Virginia" from the band's Exile On Main St. album, and "She Was Hot" from 1983's Undercover collection.
Richards says that the band has always liked to dip into its back catalogue to shake things up: "You just sort of put it all through, you put all these songs back through the band and see what comes out, and in a weird way certain things come out and say 'Yes, me this time.' And you sort of immerse yourself in the Stones and remember chords that you didn't even know you knew and stuff like that."
The Rolling Stones will next perform on Wednesday night (June 13th) in Frankfurt, Germany.
