Music stars donate items for auction
The Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF) has launched its first online auction on May 31st, featuring one-of-a-kind items donated by Simon & Garfunkel, Dolly Parton, Tony Bennett, Isaac Hayes, Neil Sedaka and others. The SHOF auction takes place on charitybuzz.com, and will run through June 14th. All proceeds from the auction will go towards Songwriters Hall of Fame programs.
This year's SHOF Awards induction ceremony and gala will take place on June 7th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Inductees include Don Black, Jackson Browne, Irving Burgie, Michael Masser, Bobby Weinstein and the late Teddy Randazzo. Honorees include Dolly Parton, John Legend and Don Kirshner. "Unchained Melody" will also receive the Towering Song award.
Among the many items up for auction are:
A vintage Simon & Garfunkel poster signed by both Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, donated by Paul Simon and valued at $5,500.
An autographed dulcimer and photograph donated by Dolly Parton.
Sheet music donated by Alan and Marilyn Bergman from the motion picture "The Way We Were" recorded by Barbra Streisand, music by Marvin Hamlisch.
An autographed copy of antique sheet music for "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" by Neil Sedaka.
An autographed copy of Cooking With Heart And Soul by Isaac Hayes, donated by Isaac Hayes.
A Baldwin M Satin Ebony 5'2" Baby Grand Piano, autographed by artists including Tony Bennett, Hal David, Jimmy Webb, Jimmy Jam, Phil Collins, Nile Rodgers, and Roger Taylor.
An autographed Gibson Guitar signed by the evening's honorees and inductees.
