Paul McCartney releases Memory Almost Full

Paul McCartney released his latest album, Memory Almost Full, on Tuesday, June 5th. The album, which is his 21st solo studio set, features a five-song suite reminiscent of the medleys that closed the Beatles' Abbey Road and Wings' Red Rose Speedway albums. The album features McCartney in a reflective mood, and at various times recalls his childhood days, his life in the Beatles, his relationship with his late first wife Linda McCartney, and ultimately how he wants to be remembered after his death.

McCartney talked about growing older to Newsweek, joking that, "I wrote this song 'When I'm Sixty-Four' not expecting to be here. Of course, little did I realize that I would not only reach that mark but still be here working, and highly embarrassed at the attention that song would bring to my age. But, you know, it's actually passed off relatively peacefully. In a few weeks I move on to actual retirement age. Sixty-five! Luckily, I still have a sense of humor -- and some hair."

As part of the promotion for the album, 10,000 Starbucks coffee shops in 29 countries will play Memory Almost Full on a loop throughout the day. The album, which is released through the Starbucks-Concord Music offshoot Hear Music, is also McCartney's first album to be released as a digital download through iTunes, as well as most other outlets.

In addition to the global listening party for Memory Almost Full at Starbucks stores, 11 key Starbucks locations in cities around the globe -- including London, New York, Berlin, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Miami -- will be participating in a video event honoring McCartney's 65th birthday on June 18th. Fans can record their personal greetings to McCartney which will premiere via a host of online outlets.

Memory Almost Full is available in both traditional outlets as well as Starbucks stores. The album is Macca's first new release also available as a digital download.

McCartney will perform an impromptu show in New York City sometime next week to promote the new album. There has been no official word as to where or when the show will take place. McCartney told Newsweek that he and the band were currently rehearsing material from the album, including the songs "Dance Tonight" and "Only Mama Knows," and "That Was Me" and "House Of Wax" from the album-closing melody.

Macca appeared on ABC's Good Morning America on Thursday (June 7th).

He says that after years of being in the public spotlight, he doesn't care about receiving negative press for his work or the causes he chooses to champion: "People said to me, 'You know, watch out for the critics, 'cause they'll have their pencils sharpened for you.' They're ready for someone like me, but I'm not really too worried. I've never been worried about critics. They've always damned me for anything I've done. We did 'She Loves You' -- they hated that. We did Sgt Pepper -- they hated that. So I'm kind of used to being hated, and I don't really care."

Memory Almost Full is McCartney's first album since 2005's Grammy- nominated Chaos And Creation In The Backyard.

Friday (June 1st) marked the 40th anniversary of the release of the Beatles' landmark album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
