The Police say reunion is not for the money
The Police say that they didn't reunite for the money. Sting told Rolling Stone that he's doing the tour for his own personal enjoyment, explaining that, "I couldn't do this if it was just for the money. It's about me having a good time -- hearing the music develop... It's about me having a good time... I want (Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers) to enjoy it too. But they can't enjoy it unless I'm having a good time. I'm doing this for myself, I really am."Copeland went on to say that the enormous profit that the band will earn from the year's worth of shows already booked won't really make that much of a financial difference in his life: "It's not going to change my life at all as a result of this tour. I live a very simple life. I drive a Jeep Cherokee and have one house. And if you subtract the money, this (tour) is still a good idea."
Summers also says that the Police are touring simply because, aside from a love of the music, there was still unfinished business between the band and their fans, explaining that, "No, (I) don't need the money -- it's nice to get it, (but Police royalties) have been incredibly good over the years... Our records were essential for a certain generation. We left this energy, this mythology. Maybe it's because we stopped before we blew it."
The Police perform tomorrow and Wednesday in Dallas (June 26th and 27th) at the American Airlines Center.
