Daughtry sails past 3 million sales mark
Daughtry's self-titled debut album has been certified triple platinum for sales of more than three million copies. The disc has also been cited as the biggest-selling record for the first half of 2007, the fastest-selling rock debut in the 16-year history of the Soundscan sales tracking system and the fifth best-selling digital release of all time. Singer Chris Daughtry told us that it's been hard for him to grasp the group's success: "It's a little weird because you don't really get a chance to take it all in and, you know, sometimes it never really sinks in where you're at in your career. It seemed so unreal when I found out that we were platinum, 'cause I was just at home, doing normal everyday stuff at home, taking out the trash, dishes and whatnot, and I found out we're selling over a million albums -- you know, I'm not even out promoting it, so it just felt so unreal. It's kind of hard to grasp sometimes."
"What I Want" is the latest single from Daughtry's album, which also includes "It's Not Over" and "Home." "It's Not Over" alone has sold more than 1.8 million downloads and ringtones.
The debut disc from the former American Idol contestant and his band came out last November.
Daughtry plays in Muskegon, Michigan on Tuesday (July 3rd) before spending the rest of the month on the road as openers for Nickelback.
