Metallica rep denies "Taliban" incident
A representative for Metallica told UsMagazine.com that the widely reported incident in which frontman James Hetfield was supposedly detained by British airport security officials never happened. Hetfield was allegedly stopped by authorities at the U.K.'s Luton airport, with bandmates suggesting that his currently long beard made him look like a member of the Taliban. The officials were said to have released Hetfield as soon as he identified himself. But the band's rep simply told Us, "It's false. It's not true." Metallica was on its way to London for July 7th's Live Earth concert, as well as its own headlining show on July 8th, when the incident allegedly took place.
The Finnish chapter of the Metallica Club will hold a five-day-long "Metallica party" from July 11th to the 15th in Helsinki, in conjunction with the band's July 15th concert in the city. The event will feature competitions, prizes, live music and a marathon of every Metallica song and video in existence. Tickets for the group's Helsinki show sold out in less than 30 minutes.
The band will wrap up its current European tour next week and return to the studio later this summer to complete its ninth album.
