REM unveils new songs in Dublin show
R.E.M. unveiled ten new songs at a club show in Dublin, Ireland, Sunday night (July 1st). The songs are expected to be part of their 15th studio album, which they are working on now. Interestingly, the band did not perform their major hits alongside their new material, choosing to showcase some older fan favorites. The older songs included "Second Guessing," "Letter Never Sent," "1,000,000," "These Days," "Maps & Legends," "Little America," "New Test Leper," "Electrolite," and "I'm Gonna DJ."
R.E.M. has more shows booked for this week, which they have referred to as "working rehearsals." The band is in Dublin recording with producer Jacknife Lee. Lee is best known for his work on U2's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, for which he shared a Grammy award, and Snow Patrol's Final Straw.
The last time the band played unreleased material in their live shows was over 10 years ago, while touring for 1994's Monster and writing new material for 1996's New Adventures in Hi Fi, some of which was recorded live.
R.E.M. was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12th.
