Rio De Janeiro Live Earth concert cancelled
A Brazilian judge has canceled the Rio De Janeiro Live Earth concert scheduled for this Saturday (July 7th), citing police not being able to provide enough officers to ensure the safety of the crowd.
Organizers of the free concert, which was to take place on Rio's Copacabana Beach, are now trying to overturn the order. Scheduled performers had included Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray, and Pharrell Williams.
The Live Earth concerts will take place on Saturday in cities on six continents, assuming that South America will now not be represented. The cities include Tokyo, Shanghai, London, Johannesburg, Sydney, Hamburg, and New York City (in the New Jersey suburbs). There will also be a band playing in Antarctica, made up of scientists stationed there.
A show in Istanbul, Turkey was also canceled by organizers, due to a lack of time.
