Rock quick hits
Korn has launched a spoof web site at evolutiondevolution.com to promote the upcoming release of the video for the band's single, "Evolution." The site appears to be publicizing a new documentary with appearances by "experts" who look suspiciously like Korn singer Jonathan Davis and bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu. In other news, Korn's upcoming Family Values tour now has a total of 13 acts on the bill, with one or two more to be announced. (Harddrive Radio)
Slipknot percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan's newest side project, Dirty Little Rabbits, will open for Stone Sour on that band's upcoming U.S. tour, which begins on August 3rd in Fargo, North Dakota. Stone Sour, of course, features Crahan's Slipknot bandmates Corey Taylor and Jim Root. (Tunelab Music)
Black Stone Cherry has issued a three-song EP through iTunes that includes the band's current single, "Rain Wizard," along with two previously unreleased tracks called "Drinkin' Champagne" and "Stop Runnin.'" (Tunelab Music)
Lostprophets will be posting exclusive video blogs from the Los Angeles studio where the band is recording its fourth album at Buzznet.com, along with weekly photos from the sessions at reccenter.com. The group has just begun recording the CD and the first pictures and clips have already surfaced online at their respective sites. (Absolute Punk)
That previously announced Panic! At The Disco cover of *NSYNC's "Space Cowboy" with Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes isn't happening after all. The track was reportedly going to surface on a new compilation album of Nineties pop covers, but it appears that the collection itself has been put on ice. (RollingStone.com)
The only album ever released by the "supergroup" P has been reissued by Caroline Records. The band was formed by actor Johnny Depp and Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes, while the record featured guest appearances from Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones. The group made its live debut at the 1993 South by Southwest music festival and often played at the Viper Room, the Los Angeles rock club co-owned by Depp. The album originally came out in 1995 and featured the single "Michael Stipe." (Punknews.org)
Depeche Mode has announced the next two releases in its ongoing series of catalog reissues. The band will bring out deluxe editions of 1997's Ultra and 2001's Exciter on October 2nd. Both will be CD/DVD sets, with the CD containing the original album and the DVD featuring 5.1 surround and enhanced stereo mixes of the record, B-sides, remixes, live performances and a short film about the album. A booklet containing lyrics, rare photos and more will also be included in the package.
