Rolling Stones donate to Polish bus crash victims

The Rolling Stones have donated a portion of the proceeds from their concert in Warsaw on July 25th in memory of 26 Catholic pilgrims killed in a bus crash earlier this week. AFP reported that the Stones' show began shortly before the official end of three days of mourning declared by Polish President Lech Kaczynski. In addition to the Stones and promoters donating an undisclosed share of the concert's proceeds to victim's families, Mick Jagger asked the crowd to observe a minute's silence during the show.

The bus crash on Sunday (July 22nd) in the French Alps was carrying a total of 50 people back to Poland after a visit to a shrine. 26 people were killed and 24 injured, with 14 of them seriously.

Other artists have cancelled shows scheduled in the region due to the tragedy. Rod Stewart postponed an appearance on Tuesday (July 24th) in the Baltic Sea city of Gdansk.

Mick Jagger turned 64 on July 26th.

The Rolling Stones next show is set for Saturday (July 28th) in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
