Rolling Stones earn $5.4m for private gig in Spain
The Rolling Stones took time out of their busy European tour last week to play a private corporate show in Barcelona, Spain, which earned the band a cool $5.4 million. The San Francisco Gate reported that the Stones played an 80-minute set for 500 guests at a party organized by Deutsche Bank, held in the Catalan National Art Museum. Jagger joked with the crowd saying, "Thank you for having us. The best part is, it's coming out of your bonuses."
Drummer Charlie Watts says that the secret to the Stones staying a tight ensemble is by frequently touring: "Great bands, whether they're Count Basie or (whoever), when they're at their best is when they're a unit, that's playing every night for a number of years. And that's what the Rolling Stones are. I mean, we fortunately get along, and enjoy what we're doing, and nowadays, we get a lot of time off in between doing that."
The band's current A Bigger Bang tour has grossed over $436 million since its kick-off in 2005.
The Rolling Stones will perform tomorrow night (Friday, July 20th) in Budapest.
