SOAD singer finishing solo album

System Of A Down vocalist Serj Tankian has finished recording his first solo album and is now mixing the project. The CD, titled Elect The Dead, will arrive this fall on Tankian's Serjical Strike label, with distribution through Reprise. Tankian, who played most of the instruments and produced the album, told us he really enjoyed working on his own: "It's been an amazing, amazing adventure, kind of like do-it-yourself record from A to Z. Now we're mixing and I even mixed a track with my own engineer to see how my mix would sound compared to other mixers' mix (laughs). You know, we're just kind of do-it-yourself. I have a beautiful pro studio next to my house, so I've been privileged to be able to use that and kind of do it at my own pace, and I'm excited about that."

System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan and ex-Guns N' Roses drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia both play on Elect The Dead

Tankian and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello appeared on IFC's The Henry Rollins Show on Friday night (July 13th) to discuss their political activist organization, Axis Of Justice.

System Of A Down has been on hiatus since last year while its members pursue individual projects.

Guitarist Daron Malakian has formed a new band called Scars On Broadway, while Dolmayan is launching an online comic book retailer later this year at Torpedocomics.com. Bassist Shavo Odadjian is spearheading an online venture called urSession, which combines a MySpace-like community with a record label.
